Four years after the initial establishment of the Sustainable Jerusalem Coalition, the membership has doubled and we have developed services that assist all the member groups. This site is itself one product of our joint efforts.
The S.P.N.I Jerusalem branch produces a Community Television magazine, Sviv Hateva, which reports on Jerusalem environmental activities and often cover events in other parts of the country. The magazine is in Hebrew, and more details are given about it in the Hebrew part of the site. Press here to cross over to the Hebrew.
The Community T.V. is coordinated by Yael Ashkenazi.
S.P.N.I Jerusalem produces a quarterly publication, the Green Pages. This is published in Hebrew, and is available free of charge at the Jerusalem S.P.N.I office (13 Helene Hamalka st., Jerusalem). Here we advertise free walking tours, coalition events and environmental news. Press here to cross over to the Green pages.
The Havatzelet newspaper is also an important tool of the coalition. This publication, named after one of Jerusalem's first newspapers, is edited expertly by Shlomo Arad.
It addresses the politics of neighborhood planning, and the need for tolerance and understanding in a complex city like Jerusalem.

Community television presents a tool whereby an ordinary resident who is concerned about problems in his physical environment, whether near or far, can express himself.
Environmental issues are usually universal in nature and are therefore capable of crossing political, economic and cultural lines.
As a result, identifying with an environmental struggle can lead to cooperation between various sectors of the population who are otherwise alienated from each other.
One of the problems regarding environmental issues in Israel is that the media generally ignore them, unless a scandal is involved.
Even in neighborhood magazines on community television, the need to treat local environmental problems is not self-evident.
The idea therefore arose of devoting a regular magazine to the environment, and naturally the most suitable body for producing such a magazine was SPNI, which in Jerusalem collaborates with many other environmentally concerned organizations within the framework of Sustainable Jerusalem.
The first course to train people in preparing and producing such a magazine took place in January-May 1999. The third course was held in 2001.
The magazine is broadcast in cooperation with the Kagan Municipal Media Center.
"Around Nature" ("S'viv ha-Teva" in Hebrew) - as the new magazine was called - was first televised in the summer of 1999.
It focuses on the entire range of environmental issues in Jerusalem and its surroundings: nature protection, site conservation, environmental education, hikes, etc.
In view of its function as a leading public-educational body working in behalf of the environment and the balance between nature and the needs of man, SPNI-Jerusalem sees community television as an important means of raising public consciousness and involvement in these issues.
Photography and production course
A fourth course in community television is about to begin, sponsored by SPNI and the Kagan Center.
